Save Arrested Development

We do a lot of baking at this time of year, especially near the holidays. Sometimes we enjoy making something simple like a rich, creamy pound cake to serve warm with some ice cream on top for dessert. Or we treat ourselves to a delicious banana nut loaf with cream cheese spread. For the holidays, the kids can’t get enough of our favorite 4-layer dessert that includes pecans, cream cheese, and pudding - absolutely scrumptious. There are lots of different pans you can make the dessert in, but our preferred bakeware by far is our Kaiser springform loaf pan.

I’ve always been a big fan of killing two birds with one stone. It’s probably not the nicest way to talk about gifts, but that’s really a matter of perspective. Maybe it would be better if I talked more about the concept of a gift that keeps on giving. This has become something of a rather hackneyed phrase over the last few years. I’m not sure which advertiser first grabbed onto it and started the slow process of beating the phrase to death, but I’m pretty sure it will continue. Never the less, there really are gifts that keep on giving and one great example is a Japanese Flowering Cherry Bonsai Tree (prunus serrulata).

Dachshund jewelry has been around since I was a child. That elongated shape is an easy one to make recognizable, but one collection of these ubiquitous dogs really got my attention. They’re all done by an artist who really captured not only the look, but the personality of these scrappy little dogs. Maybe she owns one, I wouldn’t know for sure; but she has made 29 different versions of it! Each one has the perfect dachshund personality. One of my favorite dachshund color variations is the black and tan; I was thrilled to see such an adorable version of it, painted in epoxy enamel. That particular one comes in a pin, dangle earrings, necklace and post earrings.

Time management is difficult for some. Start managing your time better by making lists of things that need to be completed. After being able to complete your lists, work on jotting down times that specific tasks need to be done by. For example, write down that cookies need to be baked by five because you need to take them to a party at six.

Most importantly, write things down. Figure out a central location for everyone in the family to write down things that need to be completed, like on the refrigerator. This way, everyone in the family can learn time management together. By writing things down that need to be done, you won’t forget to do them. Also, if a task takes less than two minutes to do, do it right then.
